Adriaan Smuts is one of the founding members of the firm. His career started in 1974 at the Department of Justice where he started off as a clerk of the court and later became a prosecutor.

In 1979 after five years in public service, he joined a Nelspruit attorney, Wiekus du Toit, as a clerk. Adriaan completed his B Proc degree at the University of South Africa, and was admitted as an Attorney in 1982.

Soon thereafter the partnership of Du Toit-Smuts was formed and one of the province’s leading law firms was established.

Adriaan established a substantial collections department, after which he shifted his focus to criminal law and litigation and later insolvency and commercial law. He is also a registered Auctioneer. He obtained a MBL degree in 1990.

Adriaan is an experienced legal practitioner with a wealth of experience in court work as well as in the commercial law field. He specialises in the negotiation and drafting of agreements over a wide range of commercial activity, including property acquisition and development transactions, company restructuring and business acquisitions.
